A Case of Intussusception of the Vermiform Appendix

Abstract
Intussusception of the vermiform appendix(IVA) is an uncommon occurrence and found in 0.01% of surgical and postmortem specimens. 200 cases were reported worldwide, since M'Kidd described intussusception of the vermiform appendix firstly in 1858.
The
incidence is higher in the young age. The etiology is variable and frequently accompanied with secondary intussusceptions. But accurate preoperative diagnosis is difficult. Recently radiologic diagnostic methods have been developed, so the
preoperative
diagnosis and endoscopic appendectomy are applied for intussusception of the vermiform appendix. Actually clinical suspicion and further precise evaluation are the best for differential diagnosis of the IVA and secondary intussusceptions. The
morbidity
of the endoscopic appendectomy is serious, so operative appendectomy with abdominal approach is more safe. Now we report a case of IVA in 17 year old male.
